I started this blog page and 6 Day Media to share God’s word with an audience that I might not get to otherwise interact with directly. I see far too many engagements in our modern landscape, that are not uncommon in biblical history, and since God’s word is never out of touch or out of style these are my thoughts backed up by scripture to illustrate how relevant God’s word is today more than ever!
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
About me
I was born in Kansas, in the early 70’s. I road my bike everywhere, built forts behind our house, and grew up as mid-western as you can imagine. To me, that is the epitome of ‘normal.’
If you would have asked me growing up, “are you a Christian?” I probably would have told you, yes. As a child, our family would occasionally go to church; however, I knew little about the bible. Attending public school I was taught evolution and ‘goo to you via the zoo.’ I was taught, the world evolved from the ‘primordial soup’ of this earth and essentially, everything came from nothing. All this ‘sounded’ reasonable and I did not question it. As I grew older I would come to my own conclusion that religion, of any type, was used to control people. Basically control people into submission to authority and keeping the peace (so-to-speak). Either way, I ‘believed’ that people should make their own decisions about whether they would believe in God or something (anything) else.
Reflecting on it now, I was very fluid in my own thinking and really wanted people to think for themselves, that applying what they read into their lives in order to find their own purpose and/or meaning. All that changed on December 23rd 2012, I walked into Barabbas Road Church (San Diego CA), not because I was seeking God, but on that very day Jesus spoke to me. I heard the verse:
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
I remember that verse; although, I had never heard it before it stuck with me. I did not realize then why that verse stuck with me, but I knew something had changed so I kept coming back to church every week. I was growing in my faith and reading the bible regularly, on my own. Sometime later, while pastor Matt [Smith] was going through John’s gospel:
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” - John 10:27
I realized at that time that in 2012 I 'heard' John 1:1 and that Jesus called to me that day and I truly heard His voice. God can, and has, used many ways to call His own to Himself and that day, of all days the Christmas sermon day, I was called and I heard His voice. Perhaps it sounds too good to be true, or supernatural, and that is because it is, a supernatural God calls to His creation and those He has predestine:
“…for those who are called according to His purpose, For those whom He foreknew he has also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined He also called, and those whom He called he also justified, and those whom He justified He also glorified.” - Romans 8:28-29
I realized I was a sinner:
“for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” - Romans 3:23.
I realized my sin condemned me and I could not save myself:
“for the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:23
I realized that God loves those He has called
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8
Then I was comforted by:
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9
Jesus took my place, He died for me on a cross ~2,000 years ago because He lead the perfect life I could not, and died for me.
“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
